Deborah Robinson

Deborah Robinson was Egenis's Artist in Residence from April to September 2004. This was a temporary post that attracted many applications from artists throughout Britain and beyond. The brief was to interpret and translate the work of the Centre in visual form. Deborah has produced an online diary which is an illustrated guide to the journey towards her work, and gave seminars including a video seminar which is available online. She works in mixed media pieces, producing lightboxes and illustrations from Darwin's original "Origin of the Species" superimposed over images of DNA marks on an electrophoresic gel, to be exhibited at the Patenting Lives Conference. Deborah has written articles for academic journals as well as the Genomics Network magazine. Deborah has also received an invitation to develop an artwork in collaboration with the Sanger Centre about the role of genetic sequencing in society, and she plans to continue her collaboration with Egenis as this develops.
